Housing Association Refurb — Wiltshire

8 x Residential apartments — Surrey

8 Daikin Altherma Split Heat Pump Systems were used for heating and domestic hot water to top floor luxury apartments. The indoor units and storage cylinders have been placed in the apartments’ airing cupboards. There was enough space around the indoor units and cylinders to install washing machines and shelving. The outdoor units have been positioned on the roof, with easy access for the annual maintenance check.

The 7 new build homes vary in sizes from a modest 3 bed up to a large 5 bedroom home. All homes connect to radiators through-out and to the Daikin hot water storage cylinder. The Daikin Altherma air to water heat pump system - supplied by Space Air Solutions has been chosen for the heating and hot water for a new Courtyard development in Jersey. The 4 bedroom homes conceal the Daikin Altherma system by positioning the hot water storage cylinder with expansion vessel in the airing cupboard, the indoor hydrobox boiler has been placed in the utility room with casing around all pipe work. The outdoor units for each home has been placed at the side of the properties, hidden in an architecturally designed wooden enclosure.

Care Village — Daventry

The Daikin Altherma heat pump system has been supplied by Space Air for all the heating and hot water for the newly built high quality Care Village ‘ Nursing Homes’ in Brampton, Daventry. Built in 2008 they consist of 21 flats, and 14 bungalows for the elderly. The Daikin Altherma system connects to LST (low service temperature) radiators through-out and the domestic hot water tank. In addition to the Daikin Altherma system each bungalow has the Daikin Heat Recovery Ventilation unit installed.

The Daikin Altherma system blends into this contemporary design, as it is situated in a plant room without the need for flues or ventilation and is connected to underfloor heating throughout. The Daikin Altherma system has been set up to operate continually via the time clock on the ‘advanced’ controller.

Self Build — Shetlands

Space Air first launched the Daikin Altherma system at the Ecobuild show in 2005 and exhibited the Daikin Altherma system, manufactured by Daikin Europe, the following year at the Ideal Home Show. A local Builder from the Shetland Islands visited both shows, where he was able to see the system in full operation and speak to Space Air directly about the after sales and technical support that could be provided. This convinced him that the Daikin Altherma system, supplied by Space Air, was the best solution to operate his own home underfloor heating.

This is another stone built cottage in Fife, Scotland which featured a 9Kw wood burning stove and an oil- fired central heating boiler. The owners decided to replace the oil-fired system as this was costly to run and maintain. It was not necessary to replace the existing radiators, so the installation costs were minimised.

The Wiltshire Rural Housing Association is committed to developing sustainable, new and refurbished, affordable rental properties in Wiltshire. The innovative and energy efficient Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump was specified to supply central heating and hot water services in a new WRHA development of 10 two bedroom homes in Codford, Wiltshire. The installation, completed in December 2007, satisfies local planning authority requirements regarding the incorporation of low to zero carbon renewable technologies.

This substantial, classic Surrey home on a private, gated estate near Guildford suffered from poor insulation, original single glazed windows and an oversized, inefficient gas boiler. The owner chose to replace the boiler with an energy efficient, environmentally friendly alternative and selected the Space Air Daikin Altherma having had previous knowledge of Daikins quality products. The owner has established in a short winter period that his energy bills have greatly reduced and has since replaced his gas fired swimming pool heating system with an Daikin Altherma ‘packaged’ unit, also supplied by Space Air.

Local Authority Refurb - Kent

Wealdon District Council has many properties that are not on mains gas and are heated by direct electric. Direct electric heating is an expensive and inefficient way to heat homes. Semi Detached — Fife

The Daikin Altherma system can satisfy your heating requirements on its own or working in conjunction with your existing system, should you wish to retain it. The owners of this stone built semi-detached property in Fife wanted to keep their 5.5kW wood burning stove as a back up system, but replace an existing Gas-fired boiler with the Daikin Altherma to handle the main heating and hot water demand. Retaining the installed radiators reduced the system costs.
