Self Build — Shetlands
Space Air first launched the Daikin Altherma system at the Ecobuild show in 2005 and exhibited the Daikin Altherma system, manufactured by Daikin Europe, the following year at the Ideal Home Show. A local Builder from the Shetland Islands visited both shows, where he was able to see the system in full operation and speak to Space Air directly about the after sales and technical support that could be provided. This convinced him that the Daikin Altherma system, supplied by Space Air, was the best solution to operate his own home underfloor heating.

Reason for selecting Daikin Altherma / Space Air
Electricity is the most commonly used fuel on the Shetland Islands. Daikin Altherma is a low energy consumption inverter controlled heat pump system, ideally suited to this new build application. As Daikin Altherma does not involve combustion there is no need to include flues or ventilation saving on the overall build costs. Refrigerant pipework connects the outdoor heat absorber unit and the indoor hydrobox boiler which does involve special skills, otherwise Daikin Altherma simply plumbs into the wet central heating system in the same way as with boilers.
